Positive displacement pumps create flow and if that flow is blocked, the pressure in the system downstream of the pump builds rapidly. If there is no pressure relief valve, the pump will keep generating additional pressure. Pressures several times the designed operating limit can be attained in seconds.
A pressure relief valve is needed to 1) protect the equipment, 2) protect from spills and 3) protect the operator. A pressure relief valve will enable you to create the rated flow without raising the pressure above a set design point. Crisis averted!

The Progressive Pumps team had the pleasure of volunteering at the Houston Food Bank to assist in packing food for the Senior Box Program, which provides a monthly box of food to low-income seniors to improve the health, nutrition, and well-being of their lives. Recently, Progressive Pumps participated in the annual WEFTEC conference in New Orleans. WEFTEC, the Water Environment Federation’s Technical Exhibition and Conference, is the largest annual water quality event in the world. Progressive Pumps participated in the 12th annual Maintenance & Reliability Symposium (MaRS) tradeshow in Galveston this week. 1 day turnaround – emergency repair of cooling tower pump
Our chemical plant customer could not run their production units at full capacity without the pump. The pump was disassembled and assessed within hours of arrival to our facility. Components, including one of the shafts and an impeller, were machined overnight. In total, pump was out of service for approximately 36 hours. Using our knowledge and experience, we exceeded our customer’s expectations and were able to get the plant back up and running at capacity.

This was a complete overhaul of 14 pump skids damaged during Hurricane Harvey. Progressive Pumps Corp. inspected the damage and provided a comprehensive quotation including replacement of control panels and motors. The skids were media blasted and powder-coated to match their color spec. New control panels and explosion-proof motors were installed. These pumps were overhauled, painted, aligned on the baseplate and delivered back to the customer ready to be put back to work!
In an effort to improve reliability, Engineers from a large chemical plant re-designed the impellers in one of their side channel pumps to combat broken vanes. As part of their R&D process, they contracted Progressive Pumps to performance test the pump with the newly designed impellers, as well as the factory impellers to compare performance results. We operated the pump at multiple flows to collect flow, pressure and horsepower data, and generated performance curves. Progressive Pumps played a vital part in the R&D process for these pumps.
This vertical turbine pump, which Progressive Pumps repaired, is being installed in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. This repair was a complete overhaul, with an added ceramic coating to promote reliability and greatly extend the life of the pump.
Progressive Pumps was recently named an Authorized Service Center for Neptune Chemical Pump Company. Neptune’s hydraulic chemical metering pumps are an industry standard for injecting chemicals.
